Taurus marriage: Which signs are Tauruses more likely to marry or divorce? Which sign is the best match for Taurus?
Based on traditional astrological beliefs, Tauruses should be most compatible with the earth signs (Virgo, Capricorn, and other Tauruses) and certain water signs (Pisces and Cancer), but are they more likely to marry these signs? And which signs are Tauruses most likely to divorce? A number of researchers have examined marriage and divorce statistics over the years to answer these questions.
Studies of Taurus Marriage and Divorce with Other Signs
Sachs (1998) looked at statistical trends for sun signs in Switzerland, using data for nearly a million people. He identified statistically significant differences (differences so large they could not be attributed to random chance) in a number of trends, including marriage and divorce.
Sachs found that Taurus men had a higher-than-average marriage rate with Taurus and Libra women and a below-average marriage rate with Geminis and Leos. He also found that Taurus men had a below-average divorce rate with Cancer women. The following is list of marriage partners for Taurus men in descending order of frequency, though most of the marriage rate differences were small (significant differences are marked with an *):

- Aries (the marriage rate is the same for Aries and Aquarius)

Sachs found that Taurus women had an above-average marriage rate with Taurus men and a below-average rate with Aquarius men. As for divorce, Taurus women had an above-average likelihood of parting from Scorpios but tended to stay married to Geminis. The following is an overall ranking from most common to least common marriages with Taurus women, though as with Taurus men, most of the differences in marriage rates were small:

So, how do these findings accord with astrological predictions? The high rate of marriage between Taurus women and Taurus men is an expected finding, as these two are likely to share lifestyle preferences and common interests, and to understand each other on a deeper level.
As for the strength of the Taurus-Libra pairing, there is no consensus among astrologers. Some believe these two signs will not be compatible because Libras tend to be flirtatious and Tauruses are prone to jealousy. Others point out the things these signs have in common, including a strong aesthetic appreciation, a love of the finer things in life, and a need for domestic tranquility. Both Taurus and Libra like to maintain a harmonious home where they surround themselves with beautiful things, and neither is inclined to fight over trivial things (it takes a lot to trigger the infamous Taurean rage and Libras tend to avoid conflict at all costs). Moreover, Libras usually appreciate Taurean decisiveness, and Tauruses appreciate Libran fairness. Also, typical Libras prefer to compromise rather than demanding to have everything their own way, so they don’t usually provoke Taurean stubbornness by being selfish and unreasonable.
It’s no surprise that Taurus men marry Leo women less often. Typical Leos like to go out on the town, seek excitement, and spend money. Tauruses, on the other hand, usually prefer home- or nature-based activities with small groups of long-term friends, and they dislike spending large sums of money with nothing to show for it. These sun signs tend to be incompatible in day-to-day life unless their rising or moon signs are a better match.
The relatively low marriage rate between Taurus men and Gemini women is also an expected finding. Tauruses like consistency and Gemini is a shifting prism of moods, preferences, feelings, ideas, and desires. Geminis, who have low boredom thresholds, may find Taurean routines stultifying, and Tauruses may find Geminis fickle and unreliable. So, why do Taurus men marry Gemini women less often while Taurus women tend to stay married to Gemini men? Gemini’s chatty, hyperactive sociability and impulsive restlessness are not compatible with Taurus’s calm, pragmatic nature. However, if other elements in their natal zodiacs are better aligned, these two can make an interesting match, and they bring complementary strengths to a partnership.
The lower-than-average divorce rate for Taurus men and Cancer women also accords with astrological predictions. Tauruses enjoy stability, good food, and a pleasant domestic life, all of which a typical Cancer can provide in abundance. The two signs usually enjoy decadent comforts as well as getting out into nature for hiking, picnics, outdoor sports, or other pastimes that take place in green spaces or on water. Both also tend to be pragmatic and reliable, which increases the likelihood that they can count on one another in times of need.
As for the bottom of the Taurus women’s marriage list, Aquarius-Taurus is considered a particularly difficult match because a typical Aquarius loves change whereas a typical Taurus avoids it like the plague. Aquarians have very low boredom thresholds and may change their entire lives on impulse just to see what will happen, even if the result is likely to be disastrous. Tauruses, on the other hand, may resist even the most necessary changes. Erratic Aquarius and consistent Taurus are likely to aggravate or unnerve one another unless their ascendants or moon signs are more compatible.
The above-average divorce rate between Taurus women and Scorpio men also accords with astrological predictions. Tauruses may be drawn by Scorpio intensity – this is often a very passionate match. However, two stubborn signs, both inclined to jealousy, may clash in the long run unless their rising signs or moon signs incline them to be more mellow and less reactive.
Another study of sun sign marriage trends was conducted in France by Castille (2000) shortly after Sachs published his research. This study, which included over six million marriages that took place across more than two decades, also identified statistically significant differences in marriage rates by sun sign.
Castille found that Taurus men in France were most likely to marry Taurus and Cancer women but had a below-average marriage rate with Leo and Sagittarius women. The following is an overall ranking from most to least common marriages with Taurus men in France, though in most cases the differences were small:

Castille also found that Taurus women chose Taurus men most often as their marriage partners and had a below-average marriage rate with Sagittarius men. The following is a ranking of most to least common marriages with Taurus women, though as with Taurus men, in most cases the marriage rate differences were small:

- Aquarius
- Aries
- Gemini
- Virgo
- Libra
- Pisces
- Capricorn
- Leo
- Cancer
- Scorpio
- Sagittarius
The high Taurus-Taurus marriage rate is an expected finding, as those of the same sun sign often have a lot in common, including lifestyle preferences, attitudes, and values. Finding Cancer high on the Taurus men’s marriage list makes sense as well because these signs are thought to be very compatible.
Seeing Leo at the bottom of the Taurus men’s marriage list also accords with astrological predictions, as Leo and Taurus have little in common and these two strong-willed signs are expected to clash. Of course, if the two individuals have very compatible rising signs or moon signs, opposing tendencies will be reduced and matches between supposedly incompatible sun signs will be much more harmonious.
Two additional large-scale studies were conducted in subsequent years. These include the research of Voas (2001), who concluded that sun signs did not influence marriage rates in the UK, and Scott and Helgertz (2020), who did find some differences in marriage and divorce rates in Sweden, though the findings did not consistently support astrological predictions. Marriage rates were often higher among supposedly incompatible pairs, and divorce statistics yielded equally mixed results. One research model suggested a slight trend toward higher divorce rates among less compatible pairs, but the effect was small enough that the authors dismissed it as negligible. A more parsimonious research model showed that divorce rates were actually highest for moderately compatible pairs and lower for the most and least compatible pairings. Other divorce models also yielded mixed results, and the authors concluded that sun sign compatibility does not influence marriage or divorce rates in Sweden.
So, four different studies came to four different conclusions. What accounts for the divergent findings? Methodologies were different in each case, and some methods may have been better than others. If some of the researchers used flawed methods, their conclusions would not be valid. Belief in astrology also varies from one nation to the next, and in places where lots of people believe in astrology, they may choose partners based on sun signs, thereby creating trends that fulfill astrological predictions. However, astrologers would argue that these studies are invalid because they focus solely on sun signs. Looking at both partners’ moon signs, rising signs, and other natal zodiac placements is required to get a true sense of compatibility.
Which Sign Is the Best Match for Taurus Marriage?
Based on the findings of the first two studies, the best match for Taurus is probably another Taurus or a Cancer or Libra. However, most of the differences in marriage and divorce rates weren’t that large, and there is far more to compatibility than sun signs alone. A relationship will not be doomed just because the two individuals have mismatched sun signs.
