Capricorn marriage: Which signs do Capricorns marry most often? Which signs are they more likely to divorce? Which sign is the best match for Capricorn?
Most astrologers predict that Capricorns will be happiest with the earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, and other Capricorns) and two of the water signs (Scorpio and Pisces). Some astrologers also believe that Cancer and Capricorn are a good match while others think these two signs are incompatible.
There have been a few large-scale studies of marriage and divorce by sun sign, and some research findings have supported astrological predictions while others have not.
Research on Marriage and Divorce Rates by Sun Sign: Findings for Capricorn
In 1998, Sachs conducted a study of various trends for astrological sun signs using census data in Switzerland that included nearly a million individuals.
Sachs’ data indicated that Capricorn men were more likely to marry Capricorn women than those of any other sign, and least likely to divorce Pisces women. A list of marriage pairings from most to least frequent with Capricorn men is provided below. However, only the difference for Capricorn-Capricorn marriages was statistically significant (too big to attribute to chance). The differences in marriage rates with other sun sign pairings were small.

Sachs found that Capricorn women also chose Capricorn men most often as their marriage partners, while they had a below-average marriage rate with Sagittarius men and an above-average divorce rate with Gemini men. There were no statistically significant findings for other sun-sign marriage or divorce rates (and most of the differences in rates were small). The following is a list of Capricorn women’s marriage rates with other signs in descending order of frequency.

Sachs’ findings accord with astrological beliefs about compatibility, as two Capricorns should have similar lifestyle preferences, while those born under signs such as Gemini and Sagittarius often want very different things from life.
Sagittarians tend to be reckless, risk-taking sensation seekers while typical Capricorns are pragmatic and sensible. Moreover, Capricorns tend to be ambitious and hardworking, and they prefer stability to uncertainty and change. However, these two signs can be more compatible if other elements in their natal zodiacs such as rising signs and moon signs are better aligned.
Gemini is considered a particularly bad match for Capricorn because their personalities tend to clash. While typical Capricorns are serious, thoughtful, and emotionally reserved, Geminis tend to be impulsive, chatty, and capricious. There is great potential for mutual aggravation unless the rest of their natal zodiac elements are more compatible.
Pisces, on the other hand, is astrologically compatible with Capricorn, so the below-average divorce rate between Capricorn men and Pisces women is an expected finding. These two individuals have quite different personalities, but they tend to complement one another, bringing unique strengths to the relationship and respecting and accepting each other for who they are.
In 2000, Castille completed a similar study of astrological marriage statistics in France. His research included 6 million marriages that took place from 1976 to 1997 (he didn’t examine divorce statistics).
Like Sachs, Castille found that Capricorn men were significantly more likely to marry Capricorn women than those of any other sign, while differences between other sun sign pairing frequencies were small. There was another more recent study in Sweden that found differences in marriage and divorce rates by sun sign. However, these findings did not accord with astrological predictions in many cases, and the authors (Helgertz & Scott, 2020) concluded that astrological compatibility does not predict marriage or divorce.
Helgertz and Scott found that in some cases, rates of marriage with incompatible signs were actually higher than partnerships with compatible signs in Sweden. For example, Capricorn index individuals in the study had the lowest rate of marriage with other Capricorns and the highest rate with Aquarians, though there were not huge differences in marriage rates among the 12 sun signs overall.
In one research model, Helgertz and Scott did find that more incompatible signs divorced slightly more frequently, but the difference was small enough to be considered insignificant. Moreover, when they used another model that broke the findings down by compatibility levels, they determined that divorce rates were actually lower not only for the most compatible pairs but also the least compatible ones, whereas those with mediocre compatibility were more likely to part ways. Overall, their findings suggested randomness rather than astrologically predictable patterns.
Another researcher in the UK, Voas (2001), examined census data for millions of individuals, concluding that sun signs did not affect marriage rates.
Why have the research results been so different from one study to the next? Some of these researchers may have used flawed methods that led to inaccurate conclusions. Another possibility is that in places where many people believe in astrology, they may deliberately choose partners whose signs are compatible, thereby increasing marriage rates for those pairings. A third possibility is that these studies examined only sun sign pairings without accounting for other factors in the couples’ natal zodiacs such as rising signs and moon signs, which also affect compatibility.
Which Sign Is the Best Match for Capricorn Marriage?
The findings of the Sachs and Castille studies suggest that Capricorns are most compatible with other Capricorns, and possibly Pisceans as well. Traditional astrologers would also say that Tauruses, Virgos, and Scorpios are good options. However, lots of marriages between supposedly incompatible signs have taken place, and many of them have lasted. Nobody should assume that a relationship between theoretically incompatible sun signs is doomed because there is far more to astrology than just sun signs.
